Giving birth to a child is an incredible experience—an experience I will never know. Many of you men reading this are most likely squirming in your chair, uttering the words, "Why the in world would he want to?" It is hard for us men to comprehend the deep emotions and unpleasant physical changes women experience throughout each trimester. Well, it is not about the excessive pain during birth, nor is it about the relentless discomfort caused by rapid weight gain. What fascinates me is the simple fact you have a human being living inside of your body. Gentlemen, think about that for a minute...another person is living inside of you!!!
According to research performed by Gretchen Livingston, Senior Researcher at the Pew Research Center, there are "...62.5 births per 1,000 women of childbearing age." 62.5 births seems like a great deal of babies to me, however, Livingston says the number is a record low for the United States, but "It's complicated." There must be something in the water where I live, because there are oodles of women having babies, and one of them is my wife. 🙂
That is correct, my wife and I are expecting our third child! Our eyes locked and jaws dropped the moment we read the results of the pregnancy test, and a massive wave of excitement and terror nearly knocked me to the floor. I just turned 40 last month and was not expecting our little surprise. To make a long story short, my wife and I tried to conceive a third child for approximately four years. After many visits to the doctor, we decided it was time to throw in the towel—counting our blessing and moving on to the next chapter in our lives. Nearly nine months ago, my wife and I discovered that miracles do happen. So here I am, a 40-year-old man ready to be a papa once again, and I cannot wait to start a new adventure with our little girl.
About the Shot
Towards the end of the second trimester, my wife started sending me maternity photos she discovered on Pinterest. I even created a Pinterest account and a board just for maternity/infant shots. You know the pressure is on when your wife says, "I want my pictures to look like that!" We had to postpone the photo shoot multiple times due to our busy schedule and the relentless rain—not that I am complaining. In fact, the pic of the week was taken in the rain, which meant I had to spend a decent amount of time in Adobe Photoshop removing rain from the photo. In the end, my wife is happy with her photos, and you know how the old adage goes, "A happy wife, means a happy life." So true! 🙂
Enjoy the photo and have a fabulous day!
All my best,
I think my mom put it best. She said, "Little girls soften their daddy's hearts."
